They can do so many wonderful things - and look so good doing them - such as flanking your opponent's fleet and attacking from behind, or maybe leaping to the defence of the lumbering ships of the line. I have four Dauntless class and when I play (very rarely) I usually field two in a battle as a squadron. No fleet seems complete to me without light cruisers.
